Hondo is a 10 year old quarter horse standing 14 hands high. He is the perfect trail master extraordinaire, there isn’t a horse more reliable and brave on the trails. He’s built stout and stocky, making him short enough for the kids, and still sturdy enough for adults to enjoy. Hondo has been on many overnight camping trips, squirrel hunts, hunter paces, and just regular good old trail rides. He is well versed in riding in heavy traffic, into town, swimming, steep hills, and rough terrain. You can always trust him to safely get the kids home on long rides, and know you have the same horse every ride.
On the trails, Hondo is a champ. He will ride alone, in a group, pony, and pack. He’s been used to push cattle, pony the little ones off of our horses, and has been around hounds and hunting dogs at squirrel hunts. He stands tied for as long as you leave him, and is a good boy to trailer to wherever you’re going. He’s used to loading right up and going to new places to ride. He is the same horse in any environment, he’s always quiet and rides right off like he’s at home. Hondo loves to swim and will cross water, roads, ditches, and any other obstacle you may come across. He jumps logs, coupes, and in and out of water.
In the ring, Hondo isn’t the fanciest but he is the safest. He has been a steady partner for our kids to give each other pony rides and trot around with. He will walk, trot, and canter smoothly and picks up both leads. Most of his arena miles are with the kids playing around with him, he is kind, forgiving, and takes a joke.
In the barn, Hondo is sweet and gentle. He loves people and the kids. He’s used to our kids climbing all over and around him. He’s not spooky, and stands quietly even when there are ATVs, fireworks, gunfire, and other livestock running around. He stands to be groomed and tacked, and can be safely handled by anyone. Hondo usually lives out in a mixed herd of mares and geldings, but is well behaved in a stall as well.
Hondo is available to be tried at our farm in Clover, SC by appointment.
